Don Quixote was a Frenchman

French = Comedy

I used to think that the stories about the French and their obsession with language were just a joke. Then I visited Montreal. The lady at a subway ticket booth held up rush hour traffic for 5 minutes to teach me how to pronounce "Cotes Des Nieges".

This latest Quixotic enterprise has me convinced that France is the Don's true home.

The French seem to be taking the issue to the extreme but I actually empathize with their cause. If the idea of using a language is to just communicate - then there's no problem.

In the evolution of languages, English has this unfair advantage of being the language of the world (read US) and the web. All the other languages are fast being considered "inferior" and are in fact on the decline. The French reaction, however the bad the outside press maybe, seems to be achieving is primary goal - of at least keeping the langauge alive and vibrant in France.

Also, is it that bad if Sehwag insists on being interviewed in Hindi by Ravi Shastri after a match?
